Contractors working on the site and BlueScope Steel will donate a total of $1,000 for every injury-free day of the project, which is expected to take 140 days to complete.
Local organisations to benefit include Guide Dogs NSW, Lifeline South Coast, and the Prostate Cancer Foundation.
Jane Bryce from Guide Dogs NSW says the initiative provides an opportunity to drill home eye safety messages.
“Make sure that you’ve got the right safety gear, think about the task that you’re doing, and just keep yourself safe,” she said.
“If you do think that you’ve got an eye injury, even if it’s only something mild, go get it seen to.”
