What is G1, 8 & 9 ? [formerly S123]
This training program has been specifically designed for participants employed who are required to undertake the role of and perform the duties and requirements of a Supervisor.
These units are appropriate for those working in operational roles, at worksites within Civil Construction, Coal Mining, Drilling, Extractive, and Metalliferous Mining Industries.
The Mining Supervisor G189 course will prepare candidates for supervisor, manager and team leadership positions in the mining, civil construction and resources industry with a focus on risk management, occupational health and safety and communication. The course covers the requirements of s.56 of the Coal Mining Safety and Health Act 1999 and s.51 of the Mining and Quarrying Safety and Health Act 1999 needed for deployment or mobilisation to a mining worksite.

- Candidates must have access to a relevant resources (Coal, Metalliferous, Drilling, Exploration or Civil Infrastructure) site / project / workplace or recent experience (previous 12 months) working in industry and have access to a supervisor / manager
Upon successful completion of this course, each participant will receive a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment recognised under the Australian Qualifications Framework.
This course is specifically tailored to cover the critical skills and knowledge required of a Mining Supervisor, and includes three units of competency incorporating the following topics;

Apply risk management processes, including;
- Plan and prepare for risk management
- Identify and assess unacceptable risk
- Identify and recommend risk controls
- Contribute to the implementation of risk controls
- Review risk management documentation
- Determine the objectives and develop investigation plan
- Gather and evaluate information
- Identify courses of action
- Prepare and present investigation reports
- Plan and prepare to communicate information
- Communicate information to achieve work activity outcomes
- Develop and perform work activity presentation
- Participate in resolving conflicts
- 2 Day program | Classroom or onsite workplace training
- Delivery may consist of blended delivery of online, face to face, and practical workplace simulations
- Assessment submission requirements include a written theory assessment and submission of Risk Assessments [JSA/JHA/SWM’s] Risk Assessment Review’s [RAR, Pre-start/Tool Box meeting] Incident reports
- On successful completion of all theory and practical assessments, candidates will be issued a Statement of Attainment with the following units of competency:

- Workers within Queensland who are new to the mining industry must complete a full Standard 11 induction program prior to the commencement of work on a mine site
- This course is the mandatory course for supervisors in the mining industry, and meets the requirements for the position of a Supervisor in the Resources Industry
